What is it about?

Twist developed a series of workshops for BRASS - Business Responsibility and Southwark Students. Students from Primary and Secondary schools partnered local business leaders to investigate the problem of matching successful business practice with good citizenship.

The students worked with influential people including Kelvin Macdonald, Director of Bankside Restaurants. One enterprise workshop at Aylwin Girls' School, Southwark was entitled ‘How Good a Business Person are You?’ and involved groups of Year 10 students setting up a business, with Year 7 students and teachers as customers. The ‘best business’ was chosen on a balance of profitability and social responsibility.

What are the benefits?

These workshops give students the opportunity of learning about business from the inside. Many may not have thought of themselves as potential business creators, owners or managers. Such an experience helps expand their ideas about their own potential. The workshops inspire students with entrepreneurial drive, give them practical experience of calculating profit and engage students in debates about ethical issues concerning business.

For other clients, the INSET has been followed up with consultancy work developing teaching and learning within the school and experimenting with enterprising learning on Enterprise Days.
