What is it about?
Twist was asked to deliver a development package for the Accommodate Partnerships around the country, to stretch their thinking and inspire them for the future. We analysed the organisation and were struck by the diversity of the partners. Some are big, some small, some work to long-term objectives, others have immediate grassroots impact. We decided the most stimulating solution would be to enable partners to learn from each other.
We developed a series of partnership exchanges, which would allow glimpses into local issues and gloves-off discussions that could help to shift mindsets. We arranged for each partnership to visit one of their colleagues. For example, Accommodate Bolton went to visit Accommodate Birmingham, while Accommodate Leeds went to visit Accommodate Sheffield.
What are the benefits?
Large organisations and departments can benefit from well developed courses that help them evaluate and assess problems and become involved in working towards solutions.
In this case, the partnership exchanges raised uncomfortable issues that needed airing. Feedback from the exchange visits has been positive. The experiences led people into more inspired thinking about the challenges facing RCOs.
For people working in the refugee and housing sectors, the problems can seem so intense and intractable that all their efforts are focused on survival, giving them little time to stop, reflect and get a sense of perspective. This development package helped bring a fresh point of view and re-invigorated participants to be able to set new goals and strive to accomplish them.
