What is it about?

WorkInsight is a self-help initiative encouraging jobseekers back into work. The project began as a commission from East Potential (with a description and reference) (what about PECAN?) to improve employment prospects for residents of Foyers in East London. Now it is run as an independent organisation (under Twist's mentorship) by some of the original participants, with funding and support they themselves have procured.

Participants meet with employer organisations (ranging from Hilton Hotels to the Metropolitan Police Service). They seek to understand and find solutions to recruitment and staff retention issues, including absenteeism, stress, equal opportunities and recruitment from different age and ability groups and minority communities. The project has improved relations between employers and jobseekers they might have been wary of taking on beforehand, including those from problematic backgrounds, ex-offenders and people on incapacity benefit.

What are the benefits?

The innovative consultancy-based approach helps both employer and jobseeker to achieve their goals. The participants gain an understanding of the employers’ point of view, as well as increased confidence and awareness of the contribution they can make. The employers gain valuable new insights from people who are both potential customers and employees. Meetings often lead to continuing collaborations to identify and support new high-quality staff.

By connecting enlightened employers to people with the right sort of expertise and experience, WorkInsight can transform organisations and the people who work for them.

WorkInsight is a collaboration between Pecan and The Twist Partnership. For further information please call 020 7247 9797 or email alex.schlotterbeck@twist.org.uk
