What’s it about?

This is a course for young people with the potential to be tomorrow’s leaders. It’s a leadership course that doesn’t just teach about leadership but actually gives participants the chance to test their problem-solving and decision-making skills in practical ways. We take them to meet senior people in a wide range of businesses and public and community organisations who present them with a challenge. What would they do if they were ‘in the driving seat’? How would they deal with real issues facing these organisations? How they would act if they were in charge? In between these discovery days, we meet up on seminar days to analyse the experience, do some problem-solving exercises and argue about leadership and empowerment.

Who’s it for?

For people who are impatient to get things moving and haven’t given up hope. This is a leadership and active citizenship course aiming to excite young people about the possibilities for change and their part in bringing it about. They will get to see places not normally open to them and talk to some of those in power, the sort of leaders who see the value of engaging with active and creative young people and learning from their different experience and insights.

What good will it do?

They will be better prepared among the next generation of Bradford’s leaders, well networked and well-informed about how the city works. The course will also help to make them more self-reliant and confident, experienced at working with others from different backgrounds to solve the city’s problems. So the city will benefit too - from all that they have been empowered to do for it.
