The ITAC consultancy project grew out of Twist’s strong commitment to building aspirations and leadership among refugee communities. ITAC enables refugees to gain recognition and accreditation for contributing to the community, with programmes running throughout the country.

'Changing mindsets in the West Midlands' was a three-month consultancy to address refugee employment in Birmingham. Twist worked with a new consortium to dispel some of the negative perceptions and stereotypes that affect refugees seeking work, both among employers and refugees themselves. Twist took a strong, innovative approach, calling the project ‘the new tax-payers project’. The entire project incorporated a mixture of strategies, including making an influential video, and the work culminated in the ‘Tapping into the Skills Reservoir in the West Midlands’ conference.

Twist helped West Midlands refugee organisations forge new links with the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, government agencies (including Jobcentre Plus and NHS recruitment services) and numerous other employers. Watch the RETAF video.
