Award-winning CR programme for at-risk youth

The Twist-designed 'Make it Happen' programme has won two awards for Simmons & Simmons: Best Corporate Responsibility Initiative at The Lawyer's HR Awards 2010 and the Attorney General's Award for Excellence.

Above, Shankara Angadi, Director of Twist accepts the Best Corporate Responsibility award with Mary Gallagher, CR Manager at Simmons & Simmons. The Lawyer's judges praised the "outstanding" programme, in which trainee solicitors mentored 15-year-olds from Tower Hamlets who were at risk of offending or exclusion from school.

The  'Make it Happen' programme also impressed the Attorney General. Here, Shankara and Richard Dyton (partner at Simmons & Simmons) are receiving the Attorney General's Award for Excellence at the Youth Network reception in 11 Downing Street in March 2010. In the programme, the at-risk youth worked together to organise a summer school (part-hosted by Simmons) for students in their final years of primary school. The teenagers were also given a week of work experience in various business services departments. The scheme is particularly impressive because it wasn't linked to commercial benefit, but was an opportunity for Simmons to do good work by truly embedding themselves into the community.
